Navaja “Navaja” is Spanish for razor clam. This highly exotic example of Mediterranean marine life takes its name from the distinctive, elongated shape of its shell, which is reminiscent of an old-fashioned cut-throat razor. If you have ever looked inside a clam, you will recall the multi-coloured, shimmering beauty of mother-of-pearl – beauty which it is really a shame to keep hidden. Could it have been this clam which inspired product designer Wolf Karnagel, who conceived the idea for the shape of the new Navaja glass collection? There are undeniable similarities. It is something of a tradition that the designers at RITZENHOFF use their imagination (and artistic genius) to create a glass that is never quite the same as anything that has gone before. What makes the Navaja collection different from previous ones is the clever idea of decorating the razor clam-shaped stem, rather than the bowl of the glass. This presented the craftsmen and –women, as well as the technicians, with a stiff challenge, but they rose to it magnificently. The décor was applied by hand and, as everyone was so impressed by the results, RITZENHOFF decided to create a whole range of drinking glasses along the same lines. Our experts designed glasses for red wine, white wine, beer, water, champagne or sparkling wine, and sherry respectively. And the happy consequence of this? All the drinks which accompany the individual courses of a meal can be served in glasses from the Navaja collection – starting with the reception champagne and continuing via the aperitifs and wines. Navaja glasses come in an original protective gift tube with matching napkins. |
